Morrisville's convenient location next to the Research Triangle Park, Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and I-40 have made it a growing bedroom community with many new housing developments. Preston, Breckenridge, Kitts Creek, and Sterling are among the communities that have attracted people here, and Morrisville's population has boomed from just 5,200 in the year 2000 to more than 27,000 today.
Morrisville features a downtown shopping center called Park West Village that includes a community center, upscale restaurants, and a movie theater. The town has eight parks and numerous youth sports programs, from baseball to cricket.
Thanks to its location near RTP and the airport, Morrisville is an attractive place for business such as hotels, light industry and offices. The U.S. headquarters of Lenovo is in Morrisville, and other technology and telecommunications companies have offices here as well.
Much of Morrisville is located in Wake County, with children living there assigned to Wake County public schools. But a small section of town extends into Durham County, including the new development Sterling, so those children are assigned to Durham Public Schools.
