Eclectic, artsy, walkable, charming - that is Carrboro. Known as the “Paris of the Piedmont,” there is no lack of art in almost every medium from Cat’s Cradle, a local venue for music and entertainment to the Arts Center in Carrboro, a dynamic artist center for the community featuring theatre, art exhibits, dance studios, classrooms, and much more. On the second Friday of every month, the art venues and businesses open after hours for Second Friday Art Walk. Dirty South Institute, DSI is an 80 seat comedy center providing another venue for entertainment. Local organic foods can be found at the Carrboro Farmers Market and Weaver Street Market, a co-op and general gathering place for friends to share selections from a smorgasbord of foods and conversations on the lawn. The restaurant scene is diverse and the wealth of organic farms in the area supply many area restaurants much to the delight of local “foodies.” Shopping is a treasure hunt. Among the options, Carr Mill Mall, a converted cotton mill, housing coffee shops, restaurants, and one of a kind retail shops. Carrboro is just west of Chapel Hill home of The University of North Carolina. Many students take the short bike ride or complimentary bus service from Carrboro to Chapel Hill. Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools are consistently ranked as a top school district. City parks, bike paths, walking trails, and walkability of the area add to the charm of this triangle town.
